This weeks freebie print. Fresh of my design press, I have just completed this to with in the last hour and now I am heading in to the studio to have a play...... .
Craft is not a dirty word.... this is a blog that was shared on twitter...
This strikes a cord with me as it is something that I know I struggle with. I don't know where the belief came from that craft is a lesser form, but I know I certainly have that running in my mind and it is not helpful. What I think I am finally getting to is that is craft that makes the art! There is not one with out the other. Like the universe... really, (well I believe...) we are all part of one...
I also really like what this guys say about the 20 minute challenge... Especially if you are someone like me that easily distracted, I have so many idea and tend to try and focus on them all rather than working on one at a time. Except mine will not be illustration... I think it might be a photo challenge, or maybe even I just give myself permission to play for 20minutes a day... and not fee
Every now and then I come across an artist whom I feel like I completely resonate with. I stumbled across this guy (Gary) today. Gary Reef I love his work and his attitude... his passion. I also really like the way he shares his journey, we all know the artists journey is a road well travelled with many a pot hole and forks in the road all quite distracting and liberating in the same breath. I like the way his is not scared to share his knowledge it and let what he has learnt become part of the bigger picture.
I had my first in home art party on the weekend... I nice small group... Was great... I travelled to little old Eltham and taught resin pouring....
So for all of those of you that like the comfort of your own home, I will bring all my art workshops to you.
Domino, Hearts&Crosses, Coasters or Antique Crackle, Altered Books and the soon to join my workshop list is Altered Journal Box.
So go on get a few friends together and have a little Art Party, get your own Hostess gift bag($60.00) with products from my range, designer papers.. Have 5 or more people and your class is free!
I am waiting nervously for the quote to come back from publisher/printers... this is my second quote... the first was a self publish option was $80 a book and that was printing only!!! I nearly cried.... well not really cried, but my hear sank.....
I look at my product and feel like I know it will work... but am I bias and what if I am wrong?.....How many others artist/photographers/writers have been where I am sitting and end up being bitterly disappointed and broke! I guess I can only do what I feel in the moment when opportunities arise... and do my best!
This is a set of cupcake prints that I intend to give away in a little bit, this is just a little sneak peak. While I decided how this little competition is going to run... so stayed tuned!
I read a blog post from kind over matter this morning that made me think.. Although I am an artist there are days I completely get lost in everything that is not creative. I was thinking that this might be a nice creative exercise, to take five minutes ten minutes a coffee breaks worth, to look around me and see life through a child's eyes. I am going to do this for two weeks, a photographic journal... of life through a child's eyes. I think it will be interesting to see if my perspective changes, if I see a sence of freedom in my shots. I will limit myself to three photos, because I tend to go crazy and click away. This is going to be a challenge for me.... for if there sometime I am not the best at it is letting go of my inhibitions and just being or acting like a child would "carefree"
Ok - I thought a bit about this little photographic challenge of mine... Had several ideas.. but this is the one I choose for today, something that I remember doing as a child. I thought a daisy chain, let me tell you it was not quite as easy with adult hands as it was as a child. Just to make it a little more difficult I got home to find that my lawns had been mown and I had s serious lack of daisies. Now this is not normally such a bad thing but on the day one wants to make a daisy chain it is a severe blow.
Day One: Sadly I did not, in fact could not limit myself to 3 shots was something more like 30, I got carried away. So here are my favourite 3 for my Daily Creative Space.
Day Two: This did not go as well as the picture in my mind insisted... oh well moving on!
Day Eight: Ok, so days 3 through 7 did not happen. I go a bit side tracked. So I have to admit this challenge is not going at all to plan. But I have some great ideas lined up... again not the idea of the challenge as that was really to live in the moment and not plan shots or ideas for shoots... Never mind.
This time I thought I might have a little project for you to do! Download image here and Project How To here
Right to ho... my big show and tell for the year is all done. I am home... YAY... 8 days away was enough for me. Now to concentrate on the production of my book and more classes.
First up... I was so happy with my photo book, and got an awesome response to it at the New Zealand Art show I am going looking in to publishers now.. I feel very excited about this...
Antique Domino's is something I have always wanted to do... and they have turned out fantastically. Have even add it it to my workshops can can't wait to roll the first one out. Vintage Birds, vintage ladies, numbers, letters anything you want really. So if you are interested contact me.
Well the New Zealand Art show is on it last day, and all has gone very nicely. Wonderful feed back on my work, the Zebra in the bath just rocked on out the door.. Has been lovely to see all my artists friends again... and making new friends. From my evening excursions I have found new ideas, I am off to photograph "the foxglove" today... can't wait to see this one. I am very impressed by Wellingtons bars....and hospitality standards.
