A "trade me" question recently sparked an experiment. This leaf had been drying for over a year. The bigger, I began by bushing on the resin and then pour on. The small one I dipped into the resin in very close succession, maybe 20 minutes apart to get an initial covering, and then poured onto the surface. The resin product used was the Glass Resin |

Ok, so much for my blog every week...too busy with Martinborough Fair, Commission work & Resin pouring workshops. BUT A new year does bring new ideas and I have a few to say the least, so here is one to start with, one that I have found the time to put into practice and finalise all that need to be done to get it to that, teaching stage. So going with a new year a new idea, one of my new workshops is ... To make this beautiful textured torso . This is generally a 4 week workshop held in my home studio. But in March, I was very lucky to go back to Book Art Studios in Auckland... I went back to visit a previous group of lovely ladies that did one of my resin workshops. This was a one day condensed workshop, and it was fantastic. We did so much more ... Everyone came out with a small medium and large torso, a word of their choice and a heart. I even found the time to show the lovely group of ladies how to make their own ceramic type tiles and give a quick sample of a new fast set resin I am stocking. Is this something you would like to do?
One of my dreams has been to have a free image site... finally it is up and running. This is part of my 2013 resolution... to give back. For years I have used what others have shared, now I have the time - space, I will share all that I have. I have only added a few categories at the moment.. this is going to be a long work in progress. I hope you find what I have useful. Till next update.. take care... be creative.. As 2012 is slowly drawing to its close and 2013 now only being a few hours away. I just wanted to say to all my family, my friends, my customers, thank you as it because of each and everyone one of you...that I learned what I did, I grew as a business and personally. It was with all your help and support that made it such a great year for me and my little business. You all played a part, whether it a small or big part, I am very very grateful and I look forward to sharing 2013 with you.
2013 is going to be a very exciting year. I have a new job and look forward to working with a friend in her Cafe one day a week and the rest of my time will be focused on my business. I am very much looking forward to my journey in 2013 Again thank you one and all, I hope your all hopes and dreams become a reality over the coming year. Came home all amped from the NZ Art Show to design some new retail heart designs, and I felt this is a bit close to some I have done recently(not retail though) so thought I would share it! Enjoy!
This is a bit of an irregular blog post for me, I guess because it has nothing to do with art in any way or form. Recently I changed power companies, a change for the better also I might add. I was always a very loyal consumer till until the early 2000's. It really doesn't matter what changed my mind but it changed, and now I am always open to change. A very dear friend of mine introduced to Powershop, I must admit I was first taken by the geekology of it... an android app, alerts of special... YES specials.... powers specials, (buying power on special.. quite a novelty huh) all from my phone or the web. I liked it! But one of the things that I really like about Powershop is everything is viewable daily... I mean how much power I am using.... it is shown daily as an average. Maybe other companies do this but I know this was not available with my previous power company. Yes I know that this is probably classed as geekish (but as we have already discover I am a technology geek) and perhaps some would say over the top, but hey I like to know! I have always had the desire, the curiosity to know how things work, anything from the mechanical working of my car to my computer, for this I thank my father ♥. Knowledge is power, so they say! In this instant that statement is not wrong. At a residence in Auckland where I had very high power bills I learnt to read my meter on a daily basis by keeping a record of daily readings, trying to identify what was using the power. I guess that has never really left me, now with Powershop it is done for me. Because it is done for me(daily power usage reading) it has give me so much more ease of control. You may have heard and seen all the TV adds that say turning you appliances off at the wall makes a difference. I moved recently and thought would try it, and I can say that yes it does make a difference. Even with my old power co it made a difference, I guess the difference is I can see it more clearly with Powershop. That difference is not to be taken lightly I think. Yes I do turn my appliances, mainly tv, stereo, microwave and oven off at the wall and don't have my printer on standby or 2nd computer running all the time and yes some times it is a pain and I don't feel like doing it but I know that the difference is going to be 2, 3 or 4 units at day. Now I know that 2, 3 or 4 units a day does not sound like much.. but I will suggest you have a look at your electricity bill and see how much your per unit charge is! Mine is roughly 23 cpu when I get it on special, or 28 cpru when it is the base rate charge. (Powershop has no daily charge to incorporate) So working on that the lower charge... 3 x 23 = .69c a day x 30 (days) = $20.70 a month that is with a little effort, it is in my pocket not the power company's (sorry Powershop) but as I am basically well nearly a fully self employed business owner every cent counts! And I thank Powershop for that. I guess what I am trying to say is that, what Powershop has done is given me choice or the "power" to purchase power on special; in advance, and has given me the information to make an informed choice on my power usage! Something that has not been seen in this industry to date. Those test below were pretty pathetic really, when I have done the transfer method before I have only really did it on to another page of the National Geographic magazine and I would leave it longer.. up to over night, but I guess the photo's below with give you an idea of how these products work. So my curiosity got the better of me... I just did a quite google search for di-lemonene and read about using it with heat... so I tried it... photo is below, but it is definitely quicker, but again results are varied! Have your tried searching on YouTube for image transfer, that is where I pretty much learnt every thing I know.. You might like to also try these two mediums as a transfer method. Gin - Wintergreen oil - Blender Pens. :) Happy transferring I am really sorry folks, I know I promised I would have the citra-solv blog up today, I underestimated what I needed to have done and have run out time .. should be heading out the door as I type(have a resin pour workshop tonight). I will definetly have more time tomorrow to pull out the National Geographic's and the resene product to have a play and experiment.
So.... wow April already. Time is going so quickly, sometimes I wonder if I am moving fast enough with it, growing enough... making the changes that need to be made... quick enough as to not to lose track and become complaisant and continue to live by my past experiences(nasty circle that can be). So am I ...Maybe, maybe not. It looks like this year is one of change, big changes... some a little scary. But hey I guess that is what life is all about and is what is going to make me a better person. I have started using paint as a medium more in my work, I am traditionally a print media freak, but in order to encompass my love if image transfer grown and change were needed. I started with water colours... (dragonfly and create(te here) but really want to move on to en-caustic (it hits my "I want to learn" button right on target). Wish(wi here) was my first play maybe a little unsecessful in the terms of en-caustic works but I love the effect and intend to to more. I also am taking a leap of faith in my surreal digital works and creating some fantasy images.... ALWAYS wanted to but did not think I could do it.... Have to run... started a night class.. small business management...
Stay happy one and all and do what you love...... love what you do Being on the move again I thought it was time to finish a couple of projects that I had around the house. The vase I brought for 50cents, the statue $7.99 at the Warehouse. This is just going to be a very simple how get this effect. All very easy, couple of layers of paint, a lime wash and a sand and you are done! While I was working on a image last night I had an idea...my image has birdcages in it, so I thought I would make some that you could use also... pretty ones... click here for larger download
Every year I partake in Twitters #nzsecretsanta (ok so this was on the 2nd year of it running, but I have taken part in both), this year I drew a twitterer which I did not follow so did not know at all.. In her profile it has she is a librarian and a few days earlier I received an email from a friend with a necklace with book charms. So naturally I thought right this is what I am going to attempt ... the slide is how it is done. It is nearly that time of year again and I can't wait, it is always a lovely weekend lounging in a beautiful garden selling my art - so be sure to come along to Kumeu Art in the Garden. Here is a sneak peak of some of what I am taking... the rest can be found here
This is very easy way to jazz up candles these were just a pair I had lying around the house. The possibilities are endless, designs, colours great fun to be had! Hot on the heals of my pinterest post! This is one of the little gems I discovered. I made these for marketing my business at a local social media met up! So keeping true with social media medium I did a scratch and win card with a QR code underneath. Quite in ingeniousness I think. But maybe that is just me.
This is how you do it
Go on give it a go! To download this image please click this link

All these you can save into catagories of your choice to refer back to, share with others that follow you or anyone for that matter! Today a found how to make scratch and win cards, such a great little idea for marketing, I already know when and how I am going to use it. Seriously go now look!
I felt it was about time did some new designs,,, so here they are ... two to start with. Dragonflies are still one of my favourites as is the Eiffel Tower so these naturally were my first to create. The next trade me commission.... Dragonflies and music Just helping out a customer, with a larger view. The brown you see is the wood, when I have sanded it, the base colour is white but there is a fair amount of black toning in it. As I said earlier I am quite happy to redo print with the print that was on "home". Below is a image of the back. Hope this helps.
This is the week on effects #verdigris of the salt and vinegar spay on copper pigmented paint. The other copper plating test I did had good results also(photo to come).
So.... here I go again about white vinegar! So many uses.... they keep growing by the day. (well almost) I found a link on the weekend referring making copper coins clean and all sparkly again. Now this I knew, I can remember doing it when I was a child. But what I did not know was, that this same recipe will tarnish and copper plate metal, what kinds of metal I am not sure... still experimenting. I brought some charm on special at spotlight... bright shiny silver.... (not my favourite, I like old) any-ways... I have tried tarnishing and copper plating these and thus far it seems to be working. I am reasonably impressed. I seem to be spend all my time in the studio which I commonly refered to as my art cave these days....( so yes this is a good thing)... Right where was I going with this ..before the phone rang. That 's right I have been working on my casting plaster products again... and are finally getting them to a place where I am happy, using a lime wash and transfer techniques. I am loving this effect, I can not wait to try more of my designs. I have had this image in my mid near on two years and this is the 2nd time I have tried playing...I feel I am still not there yet! But I will keep on keeping on, until I get to a place where I am happy with. |
